All five zones in Iskandar will be promoted comparably

PASIR GUDANG: Iskandar Regional Development Authority (Irda) says all five flagship development zones in the economic growth corridor will be promoted equally in its promotional activities and campaigns.

Irda chief executive officer Ismail Ibrahim said priority was not given to a particular flagship zone.

“It has always been our effort to promote the whole of Iskandar Malaysia to domestic and foreign investors even in the early days of its inception,” he said on Monday.

Ismail said this after the opening of Seri Alam Properties Sdn Bhd sales gallery and corporate office Galleria Seri Alam by the company’s parent company United Malayan Land Bhd chairman Tun Musa Hitam at Bandar Seri Alam township here.

He said in the early days of Iskandar Malaysia, probably too much focus was given by the media on the 9,712.45ha Nusajaya, hence creating a public perception that Iskandar Malaysia was only about Nusajaya.

“We have been changing our strategies in the last two years and will continue to engage with other stakeholders to jointly promote Iskandar Malaysia,” said Ismail.

He said each of the five flagship development zones has its own strength and advantages in attracting investors. He added investment flown into Iskandar Malaysia would benefit not only Johor but also the country.

Iskandar Malaysia launched on Nov 4, 2006, is located in the southern most part of Johor spanning 2,217 sq km and is three times bigger than Singapore.

The economic growth corridor is divided into five flagship development zones – the JB City Centre, Nusajaya, Eastern Gate Development Zone, Western Gate Development Zone and Kulai-Senai.

Iskandar Malaysia is the country’s first economic growth corridor – others are the Northern Economic Region, East Coast Economic Region, Sabah Development Corridor and Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy.

As of last December, Iskandar Malaysia had attracted RM84.78bil in total cumulative committed investments from 2006 until 2011.

Iskandar Malaysia is now on the second phase of its development starting from 2011 until 2015, and the period would witness the strengthening and generating of growth with the completion of major developments and iconic projects.
